Meeting 7 June 2008

We held this month’s meeting at St Alkmund’s Church Derby with pizza for our lunchtime start. Our main item on the agenda was the change of ‘Release’ our youth event, which changed from the 12th July to 11th October because of unforeseen circumstances. We decided to change the event from an outdoor event, to an indoor event because of weather in October, and we agreed that St Alkmund’s was an ideal venue. We also agreed that the event would be the same, but with slight alterations, i.e. no BBQ, but burgers & sausages to be cooked in a kitchen. We also discussed the timetable of the day, trying to give a relaxed freer feel to the day and create a ‘floating time’ where young people are free to go between activities. The last item on the agenda was the meeting with Bishop Alastair which Dan, Kat, Lizzie, Tom & Katy will be attending, to have conversations with the Bishop about young people’s needs in the Diocese and how we can get involved further with decisions involving young people in our Diocese.

Meeting 3 May 2008

Today’s meeting was held in Chesterfield in St John’s Church, Newbold. Our main item on the agenda was the election of the new council leadership. After some close counting we welcomed Lizzie as Chair, Tom as Vice Chair & Katy as Secretary. We also said thanks to Dan – old Chair and Kat – old Vice Chair for their work with the council over the past 2 years

Weekend Away 29 February 2008

Saturday Morning:
On Saturday morning we were tired after a short first night at the peak centre. We all had breakfast, although there were some people who were very late! After breakfast we discussed the day ahead and then had a short break before morning worship lead by Loz. This was a well constructed worship which concentrated on our lives and what we could make of them. Loz used shells to help us focus and pray about our past and present and to look forward to the future. After the worship we had a session concentrating on what the summer event was, in small groups we all came up with themes and then shared them and decided on the one that we would use. We then had a break with some delicious cakes and then came back to, in small groups, work on what we wanted to do for things. We were in groups of around four or five and were concentrating on things such as location, prayer tents and stalls, equipment and music. We then discussed together what we needed and wanted to do.

Meeting 26 January 2008

This meeting took place in Derby and was again accompanied by pizza! We talked about Hope 08 and Katie gave us a report of some of the Hope 08 New Year activities in Chesterfield. We decided that as a council we would try and support Hope 08 events in our local area and that we would commit to praying for the work of Hope 08. We also discussed the government proposal about casinos because this was a topic on the General Synod agenda. The general council response was against the building of super casinos but we expessed a deeper concern about internet gambling and especially gambling addictions amongst young people.
We ended the meeting by arranging a date for this year's youth summer event - we decided to hold it on the 12th July 2008.

Meeting 01 December 2007

At this meeting we discussed about the CEYC and what our representatives experienced at the meeting and thought about the idea of having a meeting with the other youth councils around us were discussed (Birmingham ect). We also talked about Lakshi Jefferys and how she could help with our youth mission in the diocese.
We talked about the weekend meeting we are going to have at The Peak Centre Edale, where we will have a longer period to talk, have some fun and plan further youth events (keep your diaries open for the summer!) as well as electing Synod reps and discussing who would be interested in being chair/vice chair and secretary.
To end the meeting we had pizza and had fun grating cheese followed by watching the "Amazing Grace" film (the Inspiration for our youth event last summer).
