Meeting 14th March 09

This was held in St Mark’s Chruch lounge, Chesterfield. In this meeting we welcomed a guest; Cat Hamer, a representative from ‘V’ which is an organisation which rewards volunteer work for 16-25 year olds. Many members grabbed this opportunity to earn some rather nice certificates for 5, 50 and 100 hours of volunteering.

Later in the meeting council members were given the opportunity to represent a charity of their choosing for the council to vote on for our council charity that we will, for the next year, support.  Suggested charities were: The Railway children, Ashgate Hospice, Christian aid, Tear fund and Behcets syndrome society. The council voted Tear fund by a majority.

The council discussed the 24 hour prayer/fast that they will be holding on the 1st May 09 and we talked about possible venues. We closed in prayer.

Youth Council Residential

From 18th – 20th February 2009 we had a Youth Council residential.  We all went to stay at the Peak Centre for a couple of days and had lots of fun.  We went abseiling off a bridge,  had a disco, made chocolate brownies and played a good old game of duck, duck, goose!

We also did some serious hard work.  We had training sessions about learning to use different types of media and about learning to represent the youth council at different places.  We also had a debate about women bishops and how the church should respond to those who oppose women bishops.  We spent time praying and reflecting on the theme of ‘trust’ and we began to plan some events that we hope to hold over the next year.   It was a great couple of days and hopefully the start of a great 2009!
